Lip Augmentation in Atlanta

As We Age Our Lips Lose Their Natural Plumpness And Distinct Shape

The lip line becomes undefined and the lips become flat and thin. Even when a person’s facial appearance is youthful, the lack of definition and volume in the lips makes the face appear older. In some cases, a person’s thin lips can make their “resting face” appear angry or tired, detracting from an otherwise attractive appearance. Lip Augmentation can help reverse these effects and restore shape and volume to your lips.

What is Lip Augmentation?

Lip augmentation is a procedure that produces fuller, thicker lips and reduces the appearance of fine vertical lines around the lip line.

Lip augmentation may be accomplished by injections with collagen or hyaluronic acid, or with fat transferred from another area of the patient’s own body. Lip implants may also be used to enhance the shape and volume of the lips.

Who is a Good Candidate for Lip Augmentation?

Lip augmentation is a safe procedure that has been approved for adults aged 21 and over who are in overall good health. Candidates must be free of any recurring medical conditions specifically affecting the lips, such as oral herpes.

What Are the Benefits of Lip Augmentation?

As we age, and our skin is exposed to the elements for years upon years, we begin to see the toll that lifestyle habits such as smoking and excessive sun exposure can take on our skin and lips. Many adults find that their lips have become thin and brittle, surrounded by crinkly vertical wrinkles.

Lips lose their definition and lipstick bleeds outside of the lip line. Lip augmentation is a safe, simple, and relatively inexpensive solution that can quickly rejuvenate your entire facial appearance by simply enhancing the shape and volume of your lips and diminishing the appearance of those annoying vertical lines around the lip line.

How is Lip Augmentation Performed?

There are a variety of ways to accomplish lip augmentation, depending on the condition of your natural lips and your expectations and goals. For some, simple lip injections may suffice, while others may desire a more voluminous pout achieved through lip implants.

Typically, the lips are enhanced by means of injections of a natural or synthetic biocompatible material, or in some cases, the fat that has been harvested from another area of the patient’s own body. Depending on the type of injections used, follow-up treatments may be required periodically.

For more dramatic and more lasting results, small silicone implants may be inserted inside the lips to enhance their shape and size, producing a more lasting effect. This procedure requires tiny incisions at the corners of the mouth, through which the lip implants are inserted into place.

The procedure is performed with local anesthesia and requires a very short recovery period of a few days, during which you must avoid kissing or biting the lips, or any sort of pressure on the lips.

Are There Any Risks or Side Effects to Lip Augmentation?

Normal reactions to lip augmentation treatments, such as swelling and bruising, typically last from three days to a week.

These symptoms may be easily treated with over the counter pain medication or ice packs, and gradually subsides until it resolves on its own within a few days. While more adverse or allergic reactions to lip augmentation procedures are relatively rare, a small percentage of patients have reported such reactions as prolonged redness, itching, swelling, and hardening of the lip tissue at the injection site.

Other reported reactions have included bleeding, asymmetry of the lips, and complications such as the implant shifting out of place. These reactions are minimized when the procedure is carried out by a licensed, board-certified plastic surgeon with years of experience and expertise in the area of cosmetic procedures, such as Dr. Jones.

How Long is the Recovery Period After Lip Augmentation?

While there is no downtime after a lip augmentation procedure, and you will be free to resume normal activities immediately after the procedure, some individuals may prefer to rest for a day or so, as it is normal to experience minor tenderness, swelling, and/or bruising in the first 24 hours after treatment.

In most cases, these symptoms will subside naturally within a day or two. You will be advised to avoid kissing, biting, touching, or exerting pressure on the lips for about 24 hours following your lip augmentation treatment.

If you’re looking to refresh your appearance by means of a simple procedure that doesn’t cost much, doesn’t carry many risks, and doesn’t require a long recovery period, consider getting lip augmentation and rejuvenating the appearance of your entire face by enhancing the look of your smile.
